Using a proxy for direct-to-object storage

When accessing a container or bucket through a proxy, based on your operating system, define the parameters in this procedure in one of the following files:

For Linux: /etc/oca/aws.conf
For Windows: C:\ProgramData\QoreStor\aws.conf

While accessing the container or bucket through the proxy, add https_proxy as an environment variable use one of the following options depending on your environment:
On Linux: To restrict the proxy, define the environment in .bashrc, .bash_profile, or /etc/oca/cml_common.conf. For example: https_proxy=http://<FQDN>:<PORT>
On Windows: To add https_proxy as a variable, use the following URL format:

Adding object storage to NetVault as a backup target

Ensure that the container or bucket exist with your cloud service provider and has the required permissions.

In the Navigation pane, click Manage Devices, and then click Add Device.

On the NetVault Storage Configuration Wizard - Add Storage Devices page, select Object Storage, and then click Next.

On the Add Object Storage device page, in the Cloud Provider drop-down list, select one of the following compatible storage options:
AWS S3. Go to Step 5.

If you selected Azure Blob, enter the following details:

Container

Select from one of the existing containers or enter the name of a new container, and then select whether to use the Default or Custom settings.

Account Name

(Default only) If you selected Default, enter the name of the Azure account.

Account Key

(Default only) If you selected Default, select the previously entered account key.

Connection String

(Custom only) If you selected Custom, select or enter the connection string for the Azure blob in the following format:

DefaultEndpointsProtocol=https;AccountName=<account name>;AccountKey=<account key>;EndpointSuffix=core.windows.net

Block Size (in KiB)

Enter the size of the space that you want to reserve for storage. The default value is 1024 kibibytes (KiB)

Stream Limit

Enter the maximum number of streams that you want to occur at one time. The default value is 32.

Force Add

If you want to force NetVault to add this object, select his option.

If you selected AWS S3 or Wasabi, enter the following details:

Bucket

Enter the name of the S3 bucket, and then select whether to use the Default or Custom settings.

Access key

(Default only) If you selected Default, enter the Access key for the S3 bucket.

Secret key

(Default only) If you selected Default, enter the Secret key for the S3 bucket.

Region

Enter the region assigned to the bucket. Optional.

Connection String

(Custom only) Enter the connection string in the following format:

accesskey=<access key>;secretkey=<secret key>;endpoint=<endpoint from cloud service provider>;loglevel=Debug;endpoint_protocol=HTTPS;region=<regionbasedonbucketlocation>

If you selected RSTOR or S3 Compatible, enter the following details.

Access key

(Default only) If you selected Default, enter the Access key for the S3 bucket.

Region

Enter the URL, IP address, or host name for the endpoint of the S3 bucket.

About NetVault SmartDisk

NetVault SmartDisk provides disk-based storage with optional data deduplication capability.

NetVault SmartDisk uses byte-level, variable block-based software deduplication, which packs up to 12 times more data into the same storage area for a 92 percent reduction in storage footprint. NetVault SmartDisk is installed and licensed separately from NetVault.

A NetVault SmartDisk instance consists of one or more Storage Pools and a set of processes that perform backup and deduplication operations. A Storage Pool consists of one or more file system volumes, which can be easily extended by adding more file system paths. An instance can accept data streams from heterogeneous platforms.

You can install a NetVault SmartDisk instance that has deduplication enabled (the default mode) on a dedicated NetVault SmartDisk Server or a NetVault Client. (If deduplication is enabled, you cannot install NetVault SmartDisk on the NetVault Server.) If deduplication is disabled, you can also select the NetVault Server as the host machine.
