Many alarms are being triggered by the rule: VMW Virtual Machine Packet Loss
This is the alarm message:
Network Packet Loss. Network packet loss 98.2 % is above 20.00% on the virtual machine <servername>.
The number of Packets received and Receive packets dropped are similar, this indicates many packets are being dropped by the VM network interface
Resolution
Go to vSphere and check the performance tab for that VM, then choose network and define the filters for Network counters for only these four metrics:
Packets received
Packets transmitted
Receive packets dropped
Transmit packets dropped
Use the following formula to calculate packet loss:
100∗ TransmitPacketsdropped + ReceivePacketsdropped
PacketsSent + PacketsReceived
Please see attached files, one screenshot comes from the vCenter that shows the metrics values for the next calculation example :
100* (1911.067+0)/(1916.383+30.156)= ~ 98.2%
The other attachment shows the formula.
Note: This is VMware KB about it, also affecting CPU charts:
vCenter Server 5.1/5.5/6.0 performance charts report dropped network packets (2052917)
