My Brocade agent in Foglight Storage Manager does not see any switches. When I use the Connection Tester Tool it also indicates there are no switches in the Brocade SMIS tool.
When I try to connect from the Brocade SMIS tool to the Brocade switches I get an error message, “operation not supported”. The return code is 1.
This is generally caused by a Firewall problem.
At login the Brocade SMI Agent first contacts the switch through RPC on portmapper port 111. All other calls to the switch are through RPC on ports 897 (non-secure) and 898 (secure).
The ARR and Eventing ports used are those configured in the Brocade SMI Agent host.
A quick test to see if this is the problem is to turn off the firewall and then see if all the connections are now OK.
If there is a firewall between the Brocade SMI Agent and the Brocade fabric, the following ports
must be opened:
SMIAgent to Switch:• 111 • 897• 898
Switch to SMIAgent: • Your ARR and Eventing port selections.
In some situations it is easier to allow all ports to be open between the Brocade SMIS server and the Brocade switches.
For vFoglight Storage to connect to the Brocade SMIS tool ports 5988 and 5989 need to be opened in both directions. If these default SMIS ports have been changed in the Brocade SMIS tool, then open the changed ports.
