Would like for 64bit Foglight to be able to use more than 4GB memory.
Foglight has a configuration file setting for memory usage. Foglight will not use more memory automatically. The default for 64bit Foglight is 4GB.
WORKAROUND:
Modify the server.config in the <FOGLIGHTHOME>\config directory. Windows 2008 users will need to start 'Wordpad' as an administrator and open the server.config from within Wordpad. Notepad will not work well because these files are formatted with UNIX style carriage returns.
Change the following lines:
# server.vm.option0 = "-Xms####m"
# server.vm.option1 = "-Xmx####m"
Uncomment (remove the '#') and change the #### to a multiple of 1024. Use the same value for both lines (Xms and Xmx)
Example:
server.vm.option0 = "-Xms8192m";
server.vm.option1 = "-Xmx8192m";
NOTE: You will need to add a semicolon ';' to the end of the above lines
The more memory used, the more time 'Garbage Collection' cycles will take. This could end up causing a reduction in performance. Using more than 12GB for this setting is not recommended unless directed by Quest support.
Do not allocate more memory for Foglight than your system has physically available:
General guidance on Foglight memory usage:
Operating system usage: 4GB+
Embedded MySQL: 2GB
Foglight: 4GB (default)
Embedded Agent Manager: 1GB
The above is the reason for the 12GB MINIMUM memory requirement for Foglight. If your system has 16GB RAM available, the most you should assign Foglight is 8GB.
