Gaps in the workload on SQL Server overview page -
Description
When viewing the workload trend in the SQL Server overview page there are gaps in the workload. These are not shown in the larger drilldown chart in the popup or in SQL PI.
Drilling down into the chart looks like this

Cause
This is caused by the increment of the charts displaying the values. -
Resolution
This is because the chart is based on an average five minute increment. Drilling down further and you can see the zero workload
Similarly, looking in PI shows no gaps because of the five minute increments, however when you drill down closer you can see there was no activity
The user can view the raw data by exporting the chart to Excel
Users can also turn on the monitoring of the background processes activity which is normally filtered out by PI to focus on the user processes in Knowledgebase article 4228308 or review the host metrics at a time where there is more activity.
