FGLAM has reached its maximum memory capacity when enabling SQL PI agents (4228719)

Environment is sized as required by the Foglight for Databases Deployment Guide.

When monitoring a new database instance, the "Insufficient Resources" error message is displayed informing the Agent Manager has insufficient memory allocation.

Memory sizing estimation calculated by the instance installation wizard is not aligned to the information found in the deployment guide.

A message similar to the following appears

FGLAMNAME has reached its maximum memory capacity of X GB. In order to configure the selected agents, an additional Y GB are needed.

The installer system is adding the current load of the database agents without PI to the calculated load needed to support the PI extension. The total is higher than the JVM heap available in the system.

WORKAROUND 1

Temporarily change the registry value for DBSS-InstallerSPIAgentEstimatedMemorySizeMB from 80 to 20 (for SQL Server agents), then add all of the SQL Server PI extensions, and then change it back to 80 after this is complete.

For Oracle agents, follow the same step but use the DBO-InstallerSPIAgentEstimatedMemorySizeMB registry value.

1. Navigate to Administration | Rules & Notifications | Manage Registry Variables
2. Search for EstimatedMemorySize
3. Edit the registry value specific to the SQL PI agent type by clicking the registry value name and the "View and Edit Details" hyperlink
4. Click the Change button
5. Enter the value 20 in the field and click the Finish button
6. Navigate to the Global View dashboard and select the database agents.
7. Update the SQL Server agents with the SQL PI extension in the SQL PI Administration Panel.
8. Navigate to Administration | Rules & Notifications | Manage Registry Variables
9. Search for EstimatedMemorySize
10. Edit the registry value specific to the SQL PI agent type by clicking the registry value name and the "View and Edit Details" hyperlink
11. Click the Change button
12. Enter the value 80 in the field and click the Finish button

WORKAROUND 2

1. Go into the PI Administration dashboard and add PI to one agent
2. Once PI is monitoring for that agent, then select 30 or 40 more agents to enable PI. You can choose these by clicking a checkbox, then scroll down a page or two and hold down the shift key while clicking another checkbox. Click the Enable button
3. If these are added, please repeat again until all of the agents are enabled

This issue has been logged as FOG-2946 to be fixed in a future version of the SQL Server and Oracle cartridges.
