Exporting configuration modules and objects

If you want to save a configuration permanently, you can export it. For example, you may want to save the initial version of the configuration, a version that you use to troubleshoot web site performance issues, or a current backup for disaster recovery. For more information, see Exporting configurations.
You can export your configuration to an XML file or an archive file, depending on your needs.

Description
Export Configuration XML
Exports the full system configuration to an XML file. You can use this type of export to later import selected objects from one system into another. For example, a complex sequence analyzer and its associated hit analyzers can exported from one system and then imported into another.
Export Configuration Archive
Exports the full system configuration plus uploaded resource files for the following objects: private keys, HSM configuration details, static page elements, and user agent rule files. The configuration and resources are saved in an encrypted, binary format (readable only by the import process) and protected by a user-defined passphrase. You should use this type of export when you want to replicate the current system configuration, such as when you are preparing to replace an appliance or if you want a backup of the configuration for disaster-recovery purposes.

Restoring and importing configurations

You can roll back to a previous configuration or import a previously saved configuration. You can also import hit analysis settings from Foglight Experience Viewer. The Import Configuration Wizard leads you through choosing the modules you want to restore. For more information, see the “Restoring” and “Importing” topics in the online help.

Reviewing warnings

To review warning messages, click Warnings. Warnings advise you of inconsistencies within your configuration, but they do not prevent you from monitoring your web traffic. For example, a custom field that is not updated by any analyzers results in a warning at the time it occurs.

If you choose to continue without resolving the issue, the warning is saved in the list of configuration warnings.

You can use the list of configuration warnings to remind yourself of tasks you need to do. For example, you may need to add an analyzer to update this custom field, or you may need to remove a custom field that is no longer needed (such as when an analyzer is deleted). Warnings remain until they are resolved using the Traffic Capture or Traffic Analysis dashboards.

Creating support bundles

When you contact Dell Support about appliance health issues, you may be asked to generate a support bundle and send it to them. A support bundle contains appliance health metrics and other information about all the appliances in your installation.

TIP: You can generate a support bundle for a single appliance using the appliance’s Console program. For more information, see Foglight APM Installation and Setup Guide.
To create support bundles through Foglight:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Support > Support Bundle.

Click Create Bundle.
It may time some time to generate and download the support bundle ZIP file.

Review the ZIP file to ensure no sensitive data is present.

Send the ZIP file to the Support Engineer assigned to your case.
