The Plug‑in for VMware “Enable Restartable Backups” option, allows you to restart a job to backup only those virtual machines that previously failed.
The plug-in will run an Incremental Backup job to back up only the failed virtual machines.
However, the problem arises when VMware Restartable Backups jobs are also configured with Job Retries under their Schedule Set.
Should the job fail and be retried, it will backup ALL VMs again and not only the missing ones.
This issue is being investigated under DNVMWARE-1866.
The Scheduler Job Retries and the Plug-in for VMware Restartable Backups are 2 distinct features.
Job Retries are performed automatically by the Scheduler on the main job itself, and will rerun the backup job in its entirety even if it is in Stopped state.
Plug-in for VMware Restartable Backups, sets the job in a Stopped state allowing you to manually restart the job where it left off.
WORKAROUND
To avoid having Stopped VMware jobs rerun entirely upon retry, disable the Job Retries option under the Schedule Set used by these jobs.
STATUS
This issue will be fixed in a future version if NVBU and Plug-in for VMware.
