Quest directory synchronization agent activation service shows the following error message: "Could not start the Quest Directory synchronization agent activation service on local computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, please contact your system administrator".
This is a known issue described in the product Release Notes.
The problem occurs if the Directory Synchronization Agent is running under the Local System account. This is the default setting. You can fix it by changing the DSA Activation Service account from Local System to another account that has administrative rights on a computer. To do that, open Computer Management -> Services snap-in on the computer running the DSA, select Quest Directory Synchronization Agent Activation Service, open its properties, specify an account on the Log On tab, and restart the service.
