Maintenance Plan creating full backups every time for some databases (but not others) even though MP is configured to create a tlog backups

On one of our servers we are backing up multiple databases and some but not all are getting a full backup created every time no matter whether it is a full, differential or transaction log backup specified in the Maintenance Plan 'Back up Database' task.

It seems to be because we have selected the option to “Force a full backup if one has not been created" in our Maintenance Plans (MPs). However, even runs of the MP that performs only TLOG backups, a new full backup gets created for some databases on every run of the MP even though there is already (many) full backups in that same directory. 

This happens when the database name does not match the logical name of the database’s MDF file and on 'Options' screen on the 'Back up Database Task' of your MP, you have the "Force a full backup if one has not been created" option enabled.

This is being tracked as Software Defect LS-1150: "The option to "Force a full backup if one has not been created" does not work if the database name does not match the logical name of the MDF file"

WORKAROUND

Uncheck the "Force a full backup if one has not been created" checkbox from the 'Options' screen on the 'Back up Database' task of your MP. The MP will then just create the specified type of backup such as DIFF or TLOG, and not override that setting to create a full every time.
