Description:
Specific problem with NetVault: Replication fails with "Unable to create socket: Bad file descriptor"
Symptoms:
nvr services start correctly and nvr_stat -l shows that the server service is running, however, When running an nvr_sync command the response is
Processing remote systems:
Examining remote host nvr_source
Unable to examine host nvr_destination
Event log shows errors of the type:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: nvr_xfer
Event ID: 2
Description:
Unable to create socket : Bad file descriptor
Verify that the nvr_xfer service is running on both the source and destination.
Check that the required ports are open and accessible from each machine:
on destination machine
telnet <source_machine_name/ip_addr> 53478
telnet <source_machine_name/ip_addr> 53479
on source machine
telnet <destination_machine_name/ip_addr> 53478
telnet <destination_machine_name/ip_addr> 53479
if the telnet fails to the port but you can ping the machine and dns resolves then check any intervening firewall configuration and that the required ports are open.
Failure of telnet will shows as:
Connecting To server_name...Could not open connection to the host, on port 53478: Connect failed
Success of telnet will show an open telnet session with no text.
