Database dashboard (Global View) doesn't show System Utilization OS metrics (CPU, Memory, Disk) for SQL Servers on Azure

Causa
There are 3 different kinds of SQL Server offerings on Azure, each with different monitoring capabilities:
- SQL Server on Azure VM (IaaS): Runs inside a fully managed VM. Can be monitored like an on-premise SQL Server using the DB_SQL_Server agent and a WindowsAgent. OS metrics are available if the WindowsAgent collects them successfully.
- Azure SQL Managed Instance (PaaS): OS-level metrics are not accessible via WinRM or DCOM. These agents will not populate OS metrics in the dashboard by design.
- Azure SQL Database (DBaaS): OS-level metrics are not available. The DB_Azure_Database agent collects limited platform-level metrics shown in the Overview Dashboard only.
Note: Starting from Azure SQL Database Cartridge version 6.1.5, Azure SQL DB Elastic Pools can be monitored. More details in KB article How to create an Elastic Pool Azure SQL agent (4369512). -
Resolución
- If using SQL Server on Azure VM, ensure WinRM or DCOM communication is functioning. Refer to KB article: In order for the OS collections to work in the Database Agents, WinRM or WMI is required. (4308379)
- If using Azure SQL Managed Instance or Azure SQL Database, OS metrics will not be displayed in the Database dashboard (Global View) by design.
- If using SQL Server on Azure VM, ensure WinRM or DCOM communication is functioning. Refer to KB article: In order for the OS collections to work in the Database Agents, WinRM or WMI is required. (4308379)
