NDMP Dump levels are simply backup levels from the range of 0 to 9, and each level increments from the last.
NDMP Dump Level 0
A Full NDMP Backup is a Dump Level 0 - this is a Full backup by whatever criteria by which is selected to be backed up, not necessarily a Full backup of every volume on the Filer.
NDMP Dump Level 1
This is considered a incremental, but it is actually a differential, as it is backing up everything since the last Full
NDMP Dump Level 2
Defined by backing up all data changed since the last level 1
NDMP Dump Level 3
Backs up anything since last Level 2.
And so on, and so forth.
There is no real mystery with NDMP Dump levels. The main difference between these dump levels and a normal differential/incremental backup is the cumulative nature by which they can be set.
