RUU Install does not start after a factory reset "An invalid Operating System was detected. Expected version is Windows Server 2012 or later" (4038556)

RUU Install doesn't start after a factory reset and RUU log shows the following error:

"An invalid Operating System was detected. Expected version is Windows Server 2012 or later"

Note: RUU Logs Default Path is: "C:\Program Files\AppRecovery\RUU" DL_RUU_log-Month-Day-Year(Date).log

The path for Legacy RUU versions used to be "C:\Program Files\Dell\Appliances\DL\RUU"

1. Issue may occur after a Factory Reset using the following steps:
   1. Factory reset the appliance thru F11 option using SD card. Validate that it completed thru windows logs or thru poweshell command "wmic Os get installdate" to validate
   2. Cancel FTBU and do not join to the Domain
   3. The RUU installer does not start when choose Upgrade RUU
   4. Unable to continue with FTBU setup and join to the Domain due to RUU doesn't start
2. Per RUU logs, the issue on Windows OS Version showed on the error is happening due to this error displayed on the following screenshot "OSCheck File osVersion.vbs not found at C:\Progra~1\Dell\Appliances\DL\RUU"

1. As per error to find the "shorthand" path "C:\Progra~1\Dell\Appliances\DL\RUU" validate that 8dot3name is enabled for that volume using the command: fsutil 8dot3name query c:
2. If it is disabled you need to enable it using this command: fsutil 8d0t3name set c: 0
3. Then make the symbolic link for the path expected from RUU installer using the command: mklink /d c:\progra~1 "c:\program files"
4. After these changes the RUU installer will be able to detect the OS version correctly due to the symbolic link and should be able to run
5. Then you can run FTBU and join the DL to the domain
6. However, if you find any issue on the Virtual Disk Configuration steps, cancel FTBU, go to Dell Open Manage Server Administrator (OMSA) and manually delete (a) WinBackups Virtual Disk (b) RASRdisk Virtual Disk,  use this document as a guideline How to delete virtual disk using OpenManage Server Administrator
