Using On Demand Migration for Email (ODME) to migrate a user's mailbox to Microsoft Office 365 goes into an Interrupted status shortly after the migration starts.
4/5/2016 4:56:58 AM Error Mailbox error Failed to initialize Target(Unable to access an account or mailbox.)
The user that is being migrated may have a soft deleted mailbox that is still visible to the login request that ODME is making into Office 365.
Use the following steps to confirm that the user has a soft deleted mailbox and then remove the deleted mailbox permanently from Office 365.
1. Use Azure PowerShell to connect to the Office 365 environment and use the Get-Mailbox to obtain the soft deleted mailboxes.
Get-Mailbox -SoftDeletedMailbox
2. Once the soft deleted mailboxes have been identified, using Remove-Mailbox to permanently delete the mailbox that is listed as soft deleted. Any questions on the usage of this PowerShell command will need to be directed to Microsoft's Office 365 technical support.
