Does On Demand Migration migrate a user’s mailbox or archive mailbox if that mailbox has been placed on Litigation Hold? What about an In-Place Hold?
Placing a mailbox on Litigation Hold in Office 365 is described in the following article:
In Exchange when a user deletes an item that item is placed in the Deletions subfolder in the Recoverable items subfolder. When an item is purged from the recoverable items subfolder that item is then moved to the Purges subfolder in the Recoverable items folder and marked for permanent deletion. At the next pass of the MFA the item is purged from Exchange.
Placing a mailbox on litigation hold preserves the items in the purges subfolder until litigation hold has been removed from the mailbox or allowed to expire.
Placing a mailbox on an In-Place hold is similar to that of Litigation Hold. The process is described in the following article:
When a mailbox is placed on Litigation Hold will On Demand Migration migrate all of the mailbox content including that content that is preserved in the recoverable items folder? Will the data preserved in the DiscoveryHolds subfolder be migrated?
