How to Link an RSA to a KACE SDA
Make sure that the RSA and SDA are on the same version, if it is not, then connection errors can occur.
On the KACE SDA
Go to Settings | Control Panel | KACE Linking
Enable KACE Linking and Click Save
Note: The “KACE SDA friendly name” must be the same name as reported by DNS or the IP address of the KACE SDA. For example if the KACE SDA is called “K2000” (host name of the network settings) and DNS lookup of “K2000” responds with k2000.myco.com then the friendly name on the Kace linking page needs to be “k2000.myco.com” (this is called the fully qualified domain name or FQDN) or the IP address of the KACE SDA.
Copy the link key (including the key header “----- BEGIN Linking KEY----” and the key footer “---- END LINKING KEY ----” ) into note pad.
On the RSA
Follow the same procedure and copy the RSA link key to notepad.
On the KACE SDA
Go to Settings | Control Panel | Managed Linked Appliances
From the choose action drop down menu, select "add new linked appliance"
For Host Name use the FQDN or IP address of the RSA.
Paste the RSA Linking key in the "linking key" field.
Click save.
DO Not "test the connection" as it will fail at this point in the process
On the RSA
Go to Settings | Control Panel | Managed Linked Appliances
From the choose action drop down menu, select "add new linked appliance"
For Host Name use the FQDN or IP address of the KACE SDA.
Paste the KACE SDA Linking key in the "linking key" field.
Click "save"
Click the "edit" and then the "test connection" button to make confirm the connection.
On the KACE SDA
Go to Settings | Control Panel | Managed Linked Appliances
Click on the link to the RSA added from above.
Click the "edit" and then the "test connection" button to make confirm the connection.
If both tests are successful continue with the setup.
At this point both Appliances are able to see each other, but now we need to declare this new RSA as Remote Site Appliance for this SDA.
On the KACE SDA
Go to Deployments | Remote Sites
Choose Action > New
Select the newly linked RSA from the drop down list.
Click "next".
The KACE SDA will now go through its initial synchronization process with the new RSA.
Tick the items you would like to sync to the RSA. All pre/mid/post install tasks and other dependencies assigned to the deployment checked will automatically be selected. Save and sync the RSA. This may take some time. Wait until this process completes.
Confirm Connection on the RSA
Under Settings | Control Panel | Remote Site Settings (at the top of the screen) you should see:
"This remote site appliance is currently serving as an extender for the following SDA:"
The “Linking Name” should match the KACE SDA FQDN (or IP if that was used).
The RSA is now linked to the KACE SDA.
How to UnLink an RSA From a KACE SDA (this is also useful when troubleshooting DNS or Connection issues)
On the KACE SDA
Go to Deployments | Remote Sites
Select the RSA by checking the box in front of it.
Choose “Delete selected” from the dropdown box.
On the RSA
Settings & Maintenance | Remote Site Settings
This screen should show a message:
"remote appliance has not been configured as an extender for a KACE SDA"
If the message says "This remote Site appliance is currently server as an extender for the following SDA" .
Click the “clear configuration” button.
If this does not clear the RSA with the "remote appliance has not been configured as an extender for a KACE SDA" message, stop and solve this issue before going forward with the next steps.
On the KACE SDA
Settings | Control Panel | Managed Linked Appliances
Select the RSA and choose "delete selected" from the dropdown box.
On the RSA
Settings | Control Panel | Managed Linked Appliances
Select the KACE SDA and choose "delete selected" from the dropdown box.
The RSA is now unlinked from the KACE SDA.
