Foglight for Databases 7.1.0 Release Notes (4373612)

Version 7.1 of Foglight contains the following new features and updates:

Security Enhancements

• Updated Java JRE used by Foglight to version 17.0.8

• Updated third-party libraries

• Add the ability to remove literals from queries collected. Supported for selected database cartridges. check relevant release notes.

Foglight Agent Manager Enhancements

• FglAM HA partitions will now automatically fail back to the highest priority FglAM

User Experience Enhancements

• Revised the header across all foglight dashboards to include new breadcrumbs, timeframe selector, and reports

• Open source and No-SQL database menus are now conveniently located under the “Databases” menu on the left for easy navigation

• Change the location of the “Pin” button for the left navigation bar

Query Insights Enhancements

• Add support for Snowflake and SAP HANA

• Improve Query Insight layout to allow change of width between the two parts of the screen

SQL Server Enhancements

• Add the ability to remove literals from queries collected.

• Add monitoring for os_workers.

• Add monitoring for read and write file latency.

• Remove the use of RMI in SQL Server cartridge.

Note: Not all database cartridges are available in version 7.1 but the previous cartridge versions are compatible with this release.

The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in this Foglight for Databases release.

New Timeframe Selector

The timeframe selector has a new and modern implementation. It has the following limitations compared to the previous implementation:

• Zooming using a chart on any dashboard and changing the timeframe does not reflect the revised timeframe, but the data is presented in the new timeframe selected (FOG-6440).
• Time display supports European format only (FOG-6909)
• There is no support for retrieving data in specific granularity.
• There is no support for graphically selecting time on a timeline

Foglight for Automation is not supported:

• On a Foglight Federation Master.
• When Foglight is configured to use the High Availability features.

Workflow Automation is Not Supported in High Availability Configurations

When a Foglight Management Server running in High Availability mode fails over, all in-progress tasks fail and the system cannot recover them.

Workflow Automation is Not Supported on Foglight Federation Masters

The Foglight Cartridge for Automation should not be installed, and workflow automation must not be used, on a Foglight Federation Master. This is because active tasks that update topology objects are not permitted on the Federation Master. Workflow automation may be installed and used on the Federated Child(ren) as usual.

Upgrade and compatibility

Important:

• Upgrade to version 7.1.0 directly is supported from version 6.1.0 or 6.3.0. To upgrade from earlier versions, follow the path to first upgrade to one of the supported platforms.
• To upgrade from a 5.5.x Management Server to 5.7.1 or later, you must first upgrade to 5.6.2 (or a more recent 5.6.x version), and then to 5.7.1 or later.
• To upgrade from a 5.6.11 Management Server to 5.7.5.x, you must first upgrade to 5.7.1, and then to 5.7.5.x.
• To upgrade from a 5.7.5.x Management Server to 6.1.x, you must first upgrade to 5.7.5.8, and then to 6.1.x.
• Foglight Management Server (5.7.0 to 5.7.5.8) no longer supports authentication of Federation actions (such as clearing alarms) without specifying a secure token in the federation.config file. Previously configured installations in which Federated Master and Children were authenticated without a security token no longer allow authenticated actions. For more information, see the Federation Field Guide.
• In the 5.9.x release, configuration of SecurityToken in the federation.config file (adopted from Foglight 5.7.0 to 5.7.5.8) was removed. Therefore, configuring an SSL for Federation is required when you upgrade the Federation environment to release 6.1.x from a release prior to 5.9.x, if your Federation environment configures SecurityToken before. For more information, see the Federation Field Guide.
• To upgrade from 5.9.8 FMS + 5.9.7.20 db cartridge to Management Server to 7.x release, you must first upgrade the cartridge to 5.9.7.24, and then to 7.x. This is true for SQL Server, Oracle and DB2 cartridges
