How to configure Email notifications when Foglight Management Server stops unexpectedly (4376809)

High Availability foglight can be used in conjuction with Remote Monitor to generate email notifications when the FMS unexpectedly stops.

Prerequisites:

• Foglight must be configured in High Availability mode
• TCP port 51231 must be accessible locally and remotely

Minimal configuration steps:

1. Edit [FMS_HOME]/config/remote_monitor.config
   1. Update server.urls to {"localhost", "otherhost.example.local"} to monitor these two FMS servers.
   2. Update notifier.email.host, notifier.email.from, notifier.email.recipient.server.connectionBroken accordingly.
   3. Save changes.
2. Edit [FMS_HOME]/config/remote_monitor.log.config to enable logging.
   1. Remove or comment out line 147 Target.FILE.threshold = "OFF";
   2. Save changes
3. (Windows Only) Run [FMS_HOME]/bin/remotemonitor.exe -i to create the Foglight Remote Monitor service
4. (Windows Only) Start the Foglight Remote Monitor service
5. Repeat the steps on other FoglightHA node.

Notes for Linux:

An equivalent java application is available in Linux ([FMS_HOME]/bin/remotemonitor), but will require to manually set it up for running as a service.
