There are occasions when the erwin Mart Portal services (erwin Apache Server, erwin ER360, erwinMartPortal, and erwinVaultService) are required to be enabled only through a Domain Service user account (or other custom elevated Administrative account).
Note: The "DomainServiceAccount" referenced in this KB article is only an example and not a real user account (unless you created it). You should know your own Domain Service user account.
By default, the Mart Portal will work as expected with the default Local System account configured for the services.
Problem Description:
When configuring the Log On feature for the Mart Portal services, the portal will not load through the browser. The erwin Data Modeler client will connect to the Mart Portal but the models from the Mart Portal will not load in the client.
Domain Service user account write permission missing for erwin subdirectory.
Explanation:
In previous versions of Mart Server (MartServer) or Mart Portal (prior to 12.5.2 at the time of this writing) there was no need to modify any permissions for the Domain User Account used to start erwin services (erwin Apache Server, erwin ER360, erwinMartPortal, and erwinVaultService).
Troubleshooting:
01. Please first verify that "Start as Server" (must be launched with administrative privileges) works as expected.
02. If this an erwin MartServer/Mart Portal upgrade, the guide instructs to delete the Mart Portal services (Upgrading erwin Mart Portal) for the existing service ahead of time. If this was not done, please try to delete the service in order to re-create the Mart Services.
Note: If an upgrade is being performed, always re-run the Configure Mart Portal after the upgrade completes. Click on the TEST button to verify that connection settings are still successful then click on the CONFIGURE button to save the settings.
03. Verify that the Create Mart Services and Start as Service features work with the default Local System account. If the "Local System" account does not run the Mart Portal (browser login, model access, etc), then you have a different issue.
04. If the Local System Account functions as expected then for the next step please review the "martportal.log" log file.
"C:\Users\<domain service account>\AppData\Local\erwin\Mart Portal\logs\2025-02-06\martportal.log"
Search for the error detailed similar to the one displayed below:
- HSEARCH600154: Unable to start index: HSEARCH600015: Unable to initialize index directory: HSEARCH600001: Path 'C:\windows\system32\.\indexes\erwin_portal_idx\ErwinMart\MetadataSearch' exists but does not point to a writable directory.
Solution:
The Domain User Account used must also include the "Modify" privilege permission in order to write within the erwin_portal_idx subfolder.
The \<domain service account> needed Modify to "C:\Windows\System32\indexes\erwin_portal_idx"
