The Full Text Index Service relies on iFilters to be installed and working to be able to index attachments correctly. If ifilters are not functioning then searches may be incomplete.
Is it possible to test the functionality of ifilters outside of Archive Manager.
Yes it is possible to use the ifilter test tools that are included in the Microsoft SDK. For more information please refer to the MIcrosoft documentation that can be found here.
If it is found that the ifilters are not working as suspected this will need to be troubleshot with the iFilter provider outside or Archive Manager.
