How to migrate content types that come from a content type hub?

This applies to migrating SharePoint Sites/Libraries that use content types published by a content type hub at the source.

In a SharePoint Online to SharePoint Online migration a Site including Content Types that come from Content type hub create duplicate Content Types in the target site:
 

Microsoft has updated the content type publishing process in Microsoft 365.

Rather than the content type hub automatically distributing content types throughout the environment, users now pull content types directly from the hub when adding them to lists and libraries.

As a result of this change, Content Matrix cannot detect a destination content type from the hub until it has been applied to a list or library.

This means that Content Matrix will create a new content type with the same name but a different ID than the source, which won’t be linked to the content type hub at the target.

We are aware of this issue and are working towards a solution in a future release of Content Matrix.

As a temporary solution, you may follow these steps:

1) In the target, make sure all the Content Types are published at the tenant level:
 

2) In the target site confirm you can see the Content Types from the hub:

 

3) In the target site create a temporary library to add all the necessary content types from the hub, this will create a local copy making the Content Type available for Content Matrix:

The site content types are now updated and linked to the hub:

  4) Open Content Matrix Console and migrate the site doing a Copy Site > Paste All Site Content, use "Incremental" Mode and unselect the option "Copy Content Types"
