Alerts not received when users are added to or removed from Global groups -
Description
Alert notifications are set to trigger an email when users are added to or removed from Global groups. Some activity results in email notifications as expected, others do not. -
Cause
The wrong event definition has been selected in the Active Administrator Server Management console.
"Global Group" is by default considered to be a security group in Active Directory. Domain users derive permissions from their group membership.
Some groups are 'Global Distribution Groups'. A 'distribution group' is simply a list of users in Active Directory used to deliver emails.

Resolution
Use the Active Administrator Console or ADUC (Active Directory Users and Computers) to examine the properties of the group where users are being added or removed.
Use the correct definition when building the notification.
'User Added/Removed from Global Group' is triggered by a "Global Security Group".
'User Added/Removed from "Global Distribution Group" is a separate definition.
