If you are running Quest Collaboration Services (QCS) version 3.0, you may receive the following error message when performing the mailbox test:
"It is not possible to check the mailbox configuration"
Also, the QCS event log may report the following errors:
Event ID 32623: Connection to the exchange Server has been lost
Event ID 32622: Error occurred while retrieving data from the exchange server
The permissions on the service mailbox have been verified, and you are able to successfully log on using the General Account with Outlook or MFCMAPI.
The above error messages usually indicate a problem accessing the service mailbox. However, starting in QCS version 3.0, they may also indicate a permissions problem in Exchange.
RESOLUTION 1
Please ensure only the following required software is present on QCS console. Remove other MAPI applications like Outlook, ESM (Exchange System Manager):
RESOLUTION 2
The QCS version 3.0 Install Guide states the following under "Rights and Permissions" for the General Account:
-Read access to Active Directory
-Replicate Directory Changes right for all domains in the forest from which objects will be published
-Manage Replication Topology right for all domains in the forest from which objects will be published
-Write, create, and delete objects rights for the Collaboration Services container and child containers
-Delete objects right for all containers with objects that are subject to conflict resolution via deletion
-Write permission for all objects that are subject to matching
-Modify group membership right for all groups whose members can be affected by conflict resolution via deletion or matching
-Modify permissions for all stores in the Configuration container where Collaboration Services' Calendar stub objects are stored(This requirement was added starting since QCS 3.0 when calendar data synchronization became possible).
If the above permissions are not present, you will still be able to log on to the service mailbox, but the mailbox test will fail and QCS will not function properly. Please grant these permissions to the General Account in Exchange, and attempt the mailbox test again. Please also see the following additional KB articles:

NOTE: You can verify that these permissions are present using LDP - connect to the domain and bind as the General Account. Browse the tree and try to expand this node:
CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=local
If there are no children under this node, the service account does not have the required access in Exchange. If children are present, locate and verify you can access the information stores where QCS stub objects are stored.
