How Do I Edit Exported Directory and Collections Data Tables?
The data extracted by the Directory Export Wizard is saved in the SQL Server database, and a summary of its contents appears in Notes Migration Manager, in the Objects found table of the Export Notes Directory screen. The Objects found table lists all directory objects found, but shows only a few of the columns that are actually saved in the database. You can customize the table display-for example, to specify how many and which columns to show.
The Collection Wizard lets you use the exported directory data (in the SQL Server database) to define the member contents of user and group collections. A collection is a defined subset of the "universe" of users or groups that were found and exported from the Notes/Domino source. The provisioning, migration, and other features of Notes Migrator for Exchange are applied to collections of users and groups, and the Collection Wizard is what defines these collections.
You can edit the exported directory data, and the data associated with defined user collections (but not group collections), for a variety of reasons including:
- To manually edit one or more addresses before using them for the migration-for example, if your organization is consolidating on a new SMTP domain as part of the migration process.
- To populate the SearchKey column with appropriate per-user values for the AD Object Merging Wizard.
- To specify the locations of user PABs, if they reside in diverse, per-user locations.
- To prepare the data so the Data Migration Wizard can properly associate the resource accounts with the user accounts, and properly enable mailboxes-if your target environment is configured for a resource forest and a user forest, with corresponding user accounts.
Exported directory data cannot be edited directly within the SQL Server database. Instead, to edit the data:
1. From Notes Migration Manager (the Export Notes Directory screen or User Collections: Manage): Click Export objects to TSV to export the data to a .tsv (tab-separated values format) file. A dialog box will prompt you for the destination folder and filename.
2. Use Microsoft Excel (or some other program that can edit a tsv-format file) to edit the contents of the table.
You can add, edit, and delete the contents of any existing cell in the table, but if you add or delete entire rows or columns the program will ignore any such changes when you import the data back into the database.
3. In Notes Migration Manager: Click Import objects from TSV to import the edited .tsv file into the SQL Server database. A dialog box will prompt you for the filename and its location. Note that this Import objects from TSV feature will accept only a tsv data file that was earlier exported to tsv format by the Export objects to TSV feature on this same screen (see step 1 above).
Appendix B (Column Headings of the SQL Server Database) of the Quest Notes Migrator for Exchange 4.1 User Guide provides the names and definitions of column headings in the SQL Server database table.
Some of the columns in these data tables contain critical values that must not be edited, while others can be edited as needed, and still others must be edited to implement certain strategic options or accomplish certain program features.
Note: The SQL Server database will not accept any entirely new rows or columns. You can only add, edit and delete the contents of cells that already exist in the table. If you add or delete an entire column or row, the program will ignore the change when you import the data back into the database.
