How do you view an Oracle alert logs file in Toad? (4247886)

Is there a way to browse an Oracle alert log/alert events files from Toad?

The alert log is a text file stored on the server that lists all messages and errors from an Oracle database. This file is a good resource for identifying issues with a database, but due to its formatting, it can be difficult to read and assess.

The Alert Log Viewer allows you to easily access the alert log and review it for issues. It groups events on a single row in the grid, and the lower portion of the screen lists the lines associated with the selected grid row.

Notes:

• The user account must have the EXECUTE privilege on Oracle's UTL_File package. The SYS schema has this privilege by default.

• This feature is only available with the DB Admin Module, which is included in several Toad Editions or can be purchased separately.

To review the alert log

1. Select Database | Diagnose | Alert Log Viewer.

   Tip: The Alert Log Viewer accesses the log for your current database connection. Click to connect to a different database.

2. Select a history length in the Amount to load field.
3. If the database is RAC, select the instance from the Instance field.
