Viewing the Database's Pricing Plan and Estimated Costs

The Cost drilldown’s various sections allow carrying out the following tasks:
•
Viewing the current pricing plan and the resulting estimated costs—using the Database Estimated Costs section, which displays the user account details, the cost model for storage consumption and bandwidth usage, and the resulting estimated total costs. For details, see Reviewing the Pricing Plan and its Effect on Estimated Costs on page 51.
•
Viewing the database’s storage utilization and the resulting estimated costs—using the Estimated Storage Cost section, which displays the database’s space utilization and growth during the specified time range, with the resulting effect on the estimated costs. For details, see Reviewing the Storage Utilization the Cost-related Results on page 52.
•
Viewing the database’s bandwidth utilization and the resulting estimated costs—using the Estimated Bandwidth Usage Cost section, which displays the database’s bandwidth utilization and growth during the specified time range, with the resulting effect on the estimated costs. For details, see Reviewing Bandwidth Utilization and Cost-related Results on page 53.

Reviewing the Pricing Plan and its Effect on Estimated Costs

The Database Estimated Costs section contains the following panes:

User Account Details—see Viewing the user account settings on page 51
•
Cost Model—see Viewing the storage and bandwidth usage prices on page 52
•
Estimated Costs—see Monitoring estimated costs on page 52

Viewing the user account settings

The User Account Details provides a summary of the database properties, by displaying the following settings, which are shown in various sections of the SQL Azure home page:
•
Data center—the name of the data center to which the instance reports. This name can be either user-defined or selected from Microsoft’s list.
•
Windows Live ID—the sign-in credentials (email and password) used for entering all Windows Live services.

IMPORTANT: If the data center and Windows Live ID have not yet been configured, both fields display a link that leads to the User Account global administration screen, used for defining these settings. This configuration is carried out at the instance level and applies to all databases within the instance. For more information, see Setting the User Account on page 71.
•
Database edition—the database’s edition type; either Web or Business.

Viewing the storage and bandwidth usage prices

The Cost Model pane displays the costs defined for storage consumption and bandwidth usage.

IMPORTANT: If the prices displayed on this pane have not yet been configured, the pane’s fields display a link that leads to the Cost Configuration global administration screen, used for defining these settings. For more information, see Configuring Usage Costs on page 71.
The prices displayed on this pane are as follows:
•
Outgoing price per GB—the price, per gigabyte, of bandwidth usage for outgoing data (namely, data sent from the database)
•
Incoming price per GB—the price, per gigabyte, of bandwidth usage for incoming data (namely, data arriving to the database)
•
Storage price—the price, per gigabyte, of space usage

NOTE: The storage consumption and bandwidth usage prices are fixed, and do not depend on usage level.
