Product licensing

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. All Management Server installations require a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license. This cartridge is covered by the base Foglight license.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:
  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

Installation instructions

Foglight for SNMP is distributed as a .car file: SNMPCartridge-5_9_5.car. Install the .car file and then manually upgrade the GenericSNMPAgent and GenericSNMPTrapAgent agents.

Prerequisites: Ensure that the following prerequisites are met before beginning the installation process:

  • Foglight for Infrastructure 5.8.5.4 (or later) is installed.
  • Foglight for SNMP running on Linux requires that you allow Foglight Agent Manager root or administrator access to start the Agent Manager’s ICMPService. For more information, see the Foglight for SNMP User and Reference Guide.

To install Foglight for SNMP and manually upgrade the agent packages:

  1. Use the Administration > Cartridges > Cartridge Inventory dashboard to install the SNMPCartridge-5_9_5.car cartridge and all the sub-cartridges within it.
  2. Manually upgrade the agents.
    1. Navigate to the Administration > Agents > Agent Status dashboard.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Select any GenericSNMPAgent type agent and any GenericSNMPTrapAgent type agent and click Upgrade.
      • Click Deploy Agent Package and deploy both GenericeSNMPAgent and GenericSNMPTrapAgent packages to the targeted Foglight Agent Manager host.

For full installation instructions, refer to the topic "Installing Foglight Cartridges" in the Foglight Administration and Configuration Help.

After the installation, run an SNMP Discovery to deploy the agent package to a selected Foglight Agent Manager. To run the discovery, go to the Infrastructure dashboard and click SNMP Hosts. During the discovery, the discovery agent and monitoring agents are created and you can select the devices that you want Foglight to monitor. For more information about running the SNMP Discovery, see the Foglight for SNMP User and Reference Guide.
