Welcome to the Foglight for Databases Deployment Guide. This guide provides the pre-requisites for optimal deployment, to ensure the best user experience possible.
This section describes important deployment information required to monitor the leading RDBMS: Oracle®, SQL Server®, SAP ASE®, DB2 for LUW, and Azure® SQL.
There are three main components:
• |
Foglight Management Server and Foglight Repository — Responsible for managing, alerting, and viewing the collected data. Both components can be set to run on the same machine or reside on separate machines. |
• |
Agent Manager — Hosts the monitoring database agents (also known as DB Agent) and SQL PI agents (PI repository manager agent, PI domain manager agent). |
• |
SQL PI Repository — A logical group which contains at most 3 PI databases (one for SQL Server, one for Oracle, and one for SSAS) under same SQL Server instance. Those PI databases are managed by the same SQL PI agent manager*. The total number of monitored instances in a single PI repository cannot exceed 300 instances. |
NOTE: SQL PI agent manager: The agent manager that holds PI domain manager agent(s) and PI repository manager agent. It can be the same agent manager that holds DB agents, or a dedicated one. |
Once the total number of agents exceeds 20, All-in-One installations are no longer supported.
