Foglight for NMS Integration 5.6.4.6 - User and Reference Guide

Editing the NMS Agent Properties

The NMS Agent collects information from the monitored Foglight NMS environment and send it back to the Management Server. When the agent connects to the Management Server, it is provided with a set of property values that it uses to configure its running state. For complete information about agent properties in Foglight, see the Administration and Configuration Help.
NMS Settings: These settings are mandatory. They enable the agent to connect to the monitored system. Each NMS Agent instance must have these settings specified.
NMS URL: Contains the URL to the host on which the Foglight NMS server is running and the port number to connect to.
For example, if you are logging in to Foglight NMS running on a host named Host1 over a non-secure port, type http://Host1:5054.
NMS user name: Contains the user name required to log in to Foglight NMS. If you want to store this information in an Agent Manager credential, leave this property blank and see the Installing the NMS Integration Capabilities guide for additional configuration details.
NMS password: Contains the password associated with the specified user name required to log in to Foglight NMS. If you want to store this information in an Agent Manager credential, leave this property blank and see the Installing the NMS Integration Capabilities guide for additional configuration details.
Prefix all NMS hostnames with NMS Site Name: Receive site name values from NMS for each device and pre-pend the site name to all Foglight host name values in NMS version 6.7.
Stop agent on connection failure: If the agent encounters a connection failure to the NMS server, indicate if you want the agent to continue to attempt collecting data from the NMS server.
Exclude Dependencies with any endpoint as Switch or Router/IpSLA: Indicates if you want the NMS Agent to report these types of dependencies to Foglight.
Excluded Host List: Specifies a list containing the hosts that you do not want the NMS Agent to monitor. If you are specify an IP range, both IP addresses in a range need to be fully qualified. For example, 10.10.1.1-10.10.1.240 represents a valid IP range, while 10.10.1.1-240 does not.
Included Role List: Specifies a list containing the roles that you want the NMS Agent to monitor.
Excluded Protocol List: Specifies a list containing the network protocols that you do not want the NMS Agent to monitor. Each entry in the list is a regular expression.
Excluded Application List: Specifies a list containing the application that you do not want the NMS Agent to monitor. Each entry in the list is a regular expression.
Excluded Port List: Specifies a list containing the network ports that you do not want the NMS Agent to monitor. Each entry in the list represents a port range consisting of a start and an end port number.
Dump Data XML from NMS Server for Collection on Debug: These settings indicate if you want the NMS Agent to write collection XML to the agent log.
IMPORTANT: It is recommended to have only one of the Dump Data XML from NMS Server for Collection on Debug options set to True.
Dump Metric Data: Indicates if you want the NMS Agent to write the metric data XML to the agent log. If this option is enabled, you also need to set the Agent Manager debug level to 1.
Dump Alert Data: Indicate if you want the NMS Agent to write the alert data XML to the agent log. If this option is enabled, you also need to set the Agent Manager debug level to 1.
Dump Flow Data: Indicate if you want the NMS Agent to write the flow data XML to the agent log. If this option is enabled, you also need to set the Agent Manager debug level to 1.
Dump Flow Top N Data: Indicate if you want the NMS Agent to write the flow top N data XML to the agent log. If this option is enabled, you also need to set the Agent Manager debug level to 1.
Data Collection Scheduler: This setting indicates how often the agent collects data from the monitored system. There is only one setting in this category.
Collector Config: Specifies a list indicating the data collection frequency. You can select an existing list, edit it if required, or clone an existing list.
metrics: Collects the CPU, memory, network interface, and logical disk metrics from the monitored NMS system.
flowMetrics: Collects the NetFlow data between the monitored devices.
alertData: Collects the alerts from the monitored system.
flowTopN: Collects the top NetFlow data between the monitored devices.
agentLoad: Collects the agent load from the monitored system.
Default Collection Interval: Contains the default length of the collection interval.
Fast-Mode Collection Interval: Contains the default length of the collection interval when the agent is running in fast mode.
Fast-Mode Max: Contains the maximum number of entries when the agent is running in fast mode.
