Bind Rules to Columns

Note: This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To bind rules to columns

1. Select the Rules node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.

2. Select a rule or create a new one. See Create and Alter Rules for more information.
3. Select the Bound Columns page.
4. Complete the fields as necessary.  Review the following for additional information:

   Column	Select a table to view the columns you can bind.
   Future only	Select this checkbox if you want to bind the rule to newly created columns instead of existing columns. If this checkbox is cleared, new and existing columns are bound to the rule.

To bind a rule to a data type

1. Select the Rules node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.

2. Select a rule or create a new one. See Create and Alter Rules for more information.
3. Select the Bound UDDTs page.

4. Complete the fields as necessary. Review the following for additional information:

   Data type	Select one or more data types you want to bind to the rule.
   Future only	Select this checkbox if you want to bind the rule to new data types instead of existing data types. If this checkbox is cleared, new and existing data types are bound to the rule.

Defaults

About Defaults

A default sets a default value in a table if the value is left blank.

Tip:You can change how objects display in the Object Explorer. For example, you can create custom categories or move objects out of existing categories (such as Programmability and Security) in Tools | Options | Explorer | Objects. See Object Options for more information.

Default Details

You can display details about a default by selecting it in the Database Explorer or Object Explorer. The following table describes the details associated with each default:
