This topic describes other restore operations that you can perform with the plug-in.
The Plug‑in for Exchange allows you to rename a Mailbox Database during VSS-based restores. Renaming is useful if you do not want to overwrite the existing version and want to create a copy of the Mailbox Database. The following prerequisites are met before initiating the restore:
Ensure that the following prerequisites are met before initiating the restore:

Target Mailbox Database must exist: The target Mailbox Database must be created in the Exchange System Manager or Exchange Management Console. |

Database names must be different from the original: The name of the target Mailbox Database must be different from the name of the original database. |
• |
Database filenames must be different from the original: The database filenames in the target Mailbox Database must be different from the database filenames used in the original Mailbox Database. |
To complete the rename process, perform the following steps.

After the prerequisites have been met, click Create Restore Job. |

On the Create Selection Set page, click the Mailbox Database that you want to rename and select Rename from the context menu. |

In the Rename/Relocate dialog box, enter the existing name of the target Mailbox Database in the Rename box, and click Ok. |

IMPORTANT: When you create the RDB, do not use Mount-Database. If the database is mounted, the initial Exchange Server database transaction logs are generated. These logs might interfere with the restore job and cause it to fail. |
