Certain imaging programs (such as NAPS2) can import documents from a scanner where individual pages can be saved as either portrait or landscape:
Users don't need to manually rotate the pages in the imaging program. The correct text orientation is automatically determined by the scanner. For this to work, the user's document scanner must have built-in auto-rotate and text orientation recognition features, and these features need to be enabled within the scanner configuration on the local PC:
However, there are certain document management systems which cannot import both portrait pages and landscape pages into the same document. In these cases, the landscape pages may be cropped by the document management system in order to fit the landscape image into a portrait format.
Solution 1: Disable auto-rotate feature within the scanner configuration
The easiest way to resolve this issue is to disable the auto-rotate function on the local document scanner, or to select and use an alternate driver (such as WIA) in RemoteScan for the same device which doesn't include an auto-rotate feature.
With this solution, the landscape pages will be received by the document management system as portrait. This will result in landscape pages being saved sideways, but it will prevent cropping of the edges of the document.
Solution 2a: Explicitly request portrait mode in RemoteScan interface
If disabling the auto-rotate function on the local document scanner cannot be reasonably achieved, then RemoteScan may be configured to request portrait orientation explicitly in the RemoteScan configuration. This can be done through the RemoteScan options.
Note: if the Rotation options are greyed out, this means the user's scanner does not support auto-rotate functionality, or it could mean RemoteScan cannot interface with that particular scanner driver's auto-rotate functionality.
Solution 2b: Explicitly request portrait mode in RemoteScan user configuration by modifying user-specific .ini file
Another way to specify portrait orientation within the RemoteScan configuration is to modify the user's remote.ini file, which resides in the user's Windows profile on the remote application server.

These lines can be added to the top section of remote.ini, just below the top line which says [remote]
If you need to explicitly request portrait mode for many users, one approach is to create a custom remote.ini file with these two lines added, and then distribute that custom remote.ini file to multiple users. This can be accomplished using logon script or GPO.
