Backups fail with the following transfer error:
Request to read 0×80 blocks returned a response with 0x8ff54250 bytes, which is longer than the max segment size of 0×400000.
This error occurs when the expected segment size of the transfer has been modified in some way. Generally this is caused by network configuration or a third party software like anti-virus.
Resolution 1:
Investigate the network and server environment for potential reasons the segment size of the data stream is being modified. Temporarily disable any anti-virus or network monitoring/management software on the core and agent. Ensure the network drivers and firmware on both the core and the agent are up to date. Ensure the switch configuration matches the configuration of the NICs on the core and agent. If the transfer still fails after troubleshooting all of these possible reasons, attempt resolution 2.
Resolution 2:
It is possible to resolve this issue by modifying the transfer settings on the core server. To do so, make the following modifications:
Resolution 3 for ESXi virtual machines:
If the virtual machine is an ESXi machine, changing the NIC to vmxnet3 will also resolve this issue.
