On October 3, 2022, Microsoft announced a new requirement for the migration API.
Beginning April 1, 2023, the SourceType field will be mandatory when calling the Migration API.
What does this new SourceType property provide?
Microsoft has stated that this property will help them with configuring throughput performance for different content source types.
How This Affects You
All customers who have an active maintenance plan with Quest for the content migration products at the time of the release of the hot fixes and/or minor releases will be able to download the applicable software. Customers must download and install the hot fixes or minor releases prior to April 1, 2023.
Customers who know that they will not have an active maintenance plan at the time of the release of the hot fixes and/or minor releases should contact their Quest account or sales manager as soon as possible to avoid having their content migrations to SharePoint Online disabled by Microsoft migration API.
This requirement is forcing a change in the Quest On Demand Migration SaaS-based solution. Quest customers are not required to make any changes to comply with the Microsoft requirement.
However, this requirement is also forcing a change in Quest’s desktop software products. The content migration products that are impacted are:
Content Matrix
Metalogix Essentials
Migrator for Notes to SharePoint
In response, Quest plans to release hot fixes for the last two releases for each of the content migration products. These hot fixes will include the applicable code to handle the requirement for the SourceType property. The hot fixes will be available by the first week in December. Previous releases will not be supported with hot fixes, and customers will be asked to upgrade to the available hot fixes or the next minor release.
The next minor release for each of the content migration products will include the applicable code to handle the requirement for the SourceType property. Minor releases and/or hot fixes are available.
