"Secure Copy Command Line has stopped working" - License file cannot be re-applied (4354090)

When opening the Secure Copy console, or attempting to run a copy job, an error is displayed:

“Secure Copy Command Line has stopped working”

In the application.evt log of the Secure Copy server, Event ID 1000 and Event ID 1026 may appear.

License Details are not visible. When re-applying the license, user can browse to the file, but the License details are not shown

1. The installation drive for the application has no available space

2. The Secure Copy set-up file has become corrupted

4. The job settings need to be adjusted. 

1, Open Windows Explorer and verify that adequate available space is available on the drive where Secure Copy is installed

2. Close Secure Copy. Reopen the application by right clicking and selecting ‘Run As Administrator’ (hold the “Shift” key if needed to see Run as). If Secure Copy now opens as expected, the problem may be averted in the future by creating a shortcut on the desktop that runs under the Local Administrator privilege, or by disabling UAC on the server.

Open the installation folder for Secure Copy on the server and rename the SecureCopy.ssd file and reopen Secure Copy. All existing jobs and settings will be removed. Create a simple test job and verify functionality in the application. If previous copy jobs or settings need to be retrieved, delete the new SecureCopy.ssd file and rename the old one back to “SecureCopy.ssd”. All jobs will reappear in the console.

3. Disable, or lower the level of UAC on the server where Secure Copy is installed for testing purposes.

4. Lower the thread count and batch settings to the lowest/default settings.

5. Break the job up into smaller jobs.

If none of the steps above resolve the issue, uninstall Secure Copy via the steps below:
