soo5072: There was an error reading the tnsnames.ora file. Either Oracle is not installed, or the (4287614)

When we try to use Spotlight on Oracle to monitor our databases we get the following error at the Spotlight loading splash screen:

"soo5072: There was an error reading the tnsnames.ora file. Either Oracle is not installed, or the tnsnames.ora file is corrupt."

Both machines that we tested have Oracle 10gR1 Enterprise installed on them locally, and both have working tnsnames files, as we are able to connect to our databases via SQLPLUS and we are able to tnsping with no issues. We have tried to use both Spotlight version 4.04 and 3.9 and both give the same error.

The issue is caused when the msxml4.dll, msxml4r.dll files are uninstalled when installing 10G.

Please confirm that you have the following Microsoft .dlls installed in your system32 directory:

msxml4.dll
msxml4r.dll

If you don't have them, you can find them on another PC, copy them over and register. If you cannot find these dll files, you can download them from Microsoft.

1. Download from Microsoft site:

Make sure that Quest products are not running during that operation.

2. Save the files in C:\WINNT\System32 and re-register using regsvr32 -> Start | Run type in "regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\msxml4.dll"
