Error: "Error 1609: An error occurred while applying security settings. USERNAME/GROUPNAME is n

When installing Quest Storage Suite 6.0/6.1 or any of the components (Storage Consolidator or Storage Manager), you may see the following message prior to a successful install:

"Error 1609: An error occurred while applying security settings. USERNAME/GROUPNAME is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check your network connection and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install."

This issue will occur when installing Quest Storage Suite on a Windows 2003 SP1 machine that is a member of a NON-AD domain (i.e. a Windows NT domain). A group that does not exist is being referenced during the installation.

To resolve the issue, manually create a local group on the Windows 2003 SP1 computer with the same name as referenced in the error message. This group must then be made a member of the "GUESTS" local group.

After the above is complete, attempt another install of Quest Storage Suite. You may receive the following error:

"The Quest Consolidator Setup was interrupted before your new software was fully installed. You may rerun this installation at another time to complete the setup of this software."
