Backup jobs run slower when “Network Compression" is enabled for the backup job.
By default in NetVault Console, Backup, Advance Options, Additional options, “Enable Network Compression” is turn off. Enabling Network Compression, the data is first compressed on the target NVBU Client before it is transferred over the network. On the NVBU Client to which the target device is attached, the data is decompressed before it is written to the media. When backing up over a dialup or slow network, enabling Network Compression may increase backup throughput. When backing up over 100mps full network or greater, using Network Compression will slow down the backup process. The overhead associated with having to first compress the data on the target NVBU Client then decompress the data before it is written to the media takes longer then moving the data without compressing the data.
Disable “Enable Network Compression”, located in the NetVault Console, Backup, Advance Options, Additional options, disable “Enable Network Compression”.
