Symptoms:
After connecting a 3TB GPT disk array, backups of a W2K8R2 client are successful.
Restoring fails with:
--------------
Restore partition table for device successfully: /dev/cciss/c1d1 - Disk 2
Error: Get partition table msg body error for /dev/cciss/c1d1, after restore
Mover has halted due to an abort request
NDMP: NORMAL 0: mover aborted by client.
Fatal error: Restore failed
-------------
Reasons:
When installing Windows (no external storage connected), the OS drive is Disk 0 within Disk Management.
After adding the external storage arrays (say 2 logical disks), the OS disk becomes Disk 2,
whilst the external storage arrays are Disk 0 and Disk 1.
When you boot the client with VaultOS CD, Linux sees the OS disk as Disk 0.
If Disk 2 is restored it OVERWRITES the contents of the external storage array.
In the Restore window, there is a RENAME option when you right click on each of the disks in the saveset.
The OS changed the disk numbering because of the GPT disks, but you can restore each disk on the desired position by:
- Right click on the disk > Rename.
- The Restore Rename dialog appears.
- Click the checkbox to the left of the 'Rename to' field in order to activate it
- Input the Disk Number for the disk to be restored. (E.g., Input 0 for the system disk 1, 1 for the system disk 2...)
