In the GPO admin Console do the following
- Right Click the Domain and Choose Properties
- Choose the SMTP tab
- Add the FQDN of the Exchange Server and add a From Address, eg GPOADMIN@domain.com
- You will need to either allow Anonymous Authentication in Exchange or Specify an account here that can send emails on behalf of GPOAdmin, then Ok
- Right Click the domain and this time Choose User Preferences
- On the Notification Tab, add the email Address of the users or DL that will receive email notifications
- The bottom pane 'Currently Selected Notifications' May be empty.
- Click OK
- Notifications can be set on individual objects (registered GPOs and OUs) or on a container in the Version Control Root
- Locate the object or container you want to set notifications for, right click it and select Properties
- On the Notifications Tab, heck the Actions you require notification on
- Click OK
- Now from the left hand pane, repeat step 5 and choose Notification tab
- you should now see the object or container listed in the Bottom pane 'Currently Selected Notifications'
Note: GPO Administrators can set up notifications on the VC Root containers for users by using the Notification Manager:
- Right click the Domain name and select Notification Manager
- Click a container to select it
- Click Notifications | Add Subscribers
- Check each user that you want to receive notifications. If needed enter the email address and click Set or use the Autodiscover option
- Additional Administrator or Users can also be added by clicking the appropriate button
- Click OK
- Click a User to select it
- Click Notifications | Set Notifications
- Select the Actions the user should receive notifications for
