Using a UDL test, test for connection by using the short name, long name and the IP Address of the SQL Server:
- On the Change Auditor server create a new file named test.udl (ensure the extension is UDL)
- Double click the file to invoke it
- Enter the SQL Server name using the short name
- Select Use Windows Integrated
- Click the dropdown and select a database
- Click Test Connection
- Repeat steps 2-6 for the FQDN as well as the IP Address of the SQL Server
If the test succeeds on either the short name or long name, then DNS resolution is a potential issue.
If the test fails on all three parameters, then check the status of the account used to access the database;
Account name is correct?
Password correct?
Account unlocked?
Account is enabled?
Confirm if the SQL server is using the default port of 1433. If not, add the port number to the Coordinator Configuration for the SQL name in the format SQLServerFQDN,PortNumber.
