Password Policy restrictions
From the logs:

This occurs when your virtual center credentials expire. To resolve this do the following:
1. Go to My Inventory, right click on the Virtual Center and choose Credential properties..
2. Enter a valid administrator ID and password.
3. Refresh the inventory.
4. Test a backup job that had been failing.
