Spotlight on Oracle 10.6 - Release Notes

Performance Modeling

Note: Available for Oracle 10.2 and later.

Use Performance Modeling to predict Oracle's future use of database resources —CPU, memory, and disk I/O (disk latency and disk throughput). Performance Modeling reveals trends in the use of hardware resources, analyzes what causes resource consumption, and provides advance notification of impending problems caused by hardware limitations. Performance Modeling...

  1. Collects performance data over an extended period.
  2. Establishes relationships between database load and database resources.
  3. Predicts when (and under what conditions) database resources are expected to reach their full capacity.
  4. Provides an interactive model that you can use to predict:
  • The resources needed to handle hypothetical database loads.
  • The database load that can be supported by a hypothetical mix of CPU, memory, and disk resources.
