SQL Statement Cost Metric

Use this page in the SQL Statement Trend Analysis Wizard to specify the metric (and value of the metric) used to predict the future performance of the database.

Option Description
SQL statement cost metric

Select the metric that represents the Cost Metric of the SQL statement whose performance you want to predict?

Cost metric

Description

CPU Time

The amount of CPU time spent processing the SQL statement.

Disk Reads

The number of physical disk reads recorded against the SQL statement.

Elapsed Time

The amount of elapsed time (including wait time) taken to execute the SQL statement.

Logical Reads

The number of logical reads (buffer gets) retrieved by the SQL statement.

Filter SQL statements by their average cost

Select to place a threshold value on the SQL statement cost metric.

  1. Should the metric be less than or equal to or greater than the threshold value?
  2. Define the threshold value.
  3. Select the threshold value unit of measurement.
Unit of measurement Description
{cost metric} Per Second Select to discard events that occur too infrequently to be significant.
{cost metric} Per Execution Select to discard SQL statement executions whose individual load on the database is insignificant.

Note: By placing a threshold value on the cost metric, you can choose to analyze ONLY the SQL statements that meet a specified average cost during the period of analysis, which you can select later in the wizard. Additional SQL Filtering Criteria

Note: The wizard opens from the SQL Performance page.
