Spotlight on DB2 6.10 - Getting Started Guide

Understanding drilldowns

The hierarchical design of Spotlight makes it possible for you to monitor your DB2 for LUW (Linux, Unix, and Windows) database or database partition at different levels of detail.

The performance overview

At the home page level, Spotlight displays a visual map of the critical areas of operation to watch in a specific database or database partition or in the DB2 instance containing this database or partition. These areas, called components on the home page, include the following:

  • Client application, database agent, and background agent activity

  • Memory area activity and utilization

  • I/O traffic

  • Disk storage

This overview is designed to help you locate and identify bottlenecks quickly.

The drilldown view

When you have isolated a problem area on the home page, you can display a detailed breakdown of the underlying statistics, called a drilldown, by clicking in the general component area or clicking an icon in the Spotlight toolbar. Each drilldown contains a series of reports and graphs that provide specific information about the components of your system. The statistics that are available help you identify and anticipate performance problems.
