Session Waits Page

The Session Waits page shows the amount of time a session spent waiting for resources to become available.

When an Oracle session needs a resource that is not available or performs disk I/O, Oracle records the type and duration of the wait.

To open the Session Waits page

  1. Select the Spotlight on Oracle connection in the Spotlight Browser.

  2. Click Top Sessions Page.

  3. Select the session to view in detail.
  4. Click Session Waits.

Note: Alternatively, you can view session waits for top sessions by I/O Time on the IOSession Waits Page.

Description

Current wait

If the wait is for a file IO operation (such as db file sequential read or db file scattered read) Spotlight displays the name of the table or index to which the IO is occurring. If you selected fast initialization (Oracle Initialization) when you connected to the database, the name of the table or index is not shown.

Wait state (time)

The status of the wait, and how long it has waited.

The Session Waits Grid

This table lists details of all wait events.

Tips:

  • Click Change filtering options to Show all or Hide Idle Waits.
  • Click on an event to open it in the Activity | Waiting Events Page. Waiting Events Page

Description

Resource usage

The pie chart shows a breakdown of total resource waits by category.

Wait Events

The chart shows a history of wait events. The legend to the right shows the different categories of wait events displayed.
