Add Alarms to Custom Counters

You can add alarms to the custom counters you configure so that you are alerted when the counter values exceed their thresholds.

Note: Alarms can be added only to custom counters that return a numeric value.

To add alarms to Custom Counters

  1. Click Configure | Alarms.

  2. Select a connection to configure. To apply the configuration to all connections, select Default Settings.
  3. Select the Custom Counters alarm.
  4. Select Override the default settings for the alarm.
  5. Click Add.
  6. From the Key value list, select or type the custom counter you want to add the alarm to.
  7. Click Add Severity to select the severity you want to add.
  8. Enable the new severity.
  9. Use either the colored bar or the table to set thresholds for the severity.
  10. Enter an alarm description in the Description field. When the alarm is raised, the contents of the Description field are shown in the Details column of the Alarm Log, in Spotlight Today, and on the home page when you hover the mouse over the Custom Counters button.

    To include the key name and current value in the description, use the following syntax:

    {{key}} = Custom counter name

    {{value}} = Custom counter value

    Example:

    {{key}} has a value of {{value}}
