Cluster Balance Metric

Use this option to choose the metric used to determine whether the database instances in the Oracle RAC cluster are balanced.

To configure Spotlight on Oracle RAC Cluster Balance Metric

  1. Open a Spotlight on Oracle RAC connection.
  2. Click View | Options
  3. Click Alarms and Notifications | Cluster Balance Metric
  4. Configure the following options:

    Option Description

    Logical Reads/s

A logical read occurs when Oracle finds data in the local buffer cache of an instance without needing to read the data from physical disk. The cluster is in balance when the rate of logical reads for all instances is approximately the same.

    Physical Writes/s

A physical write occurs every time a database instance writes data to a file on the cluster's shared disk sub-system. The cluster is in balance when the rate of physical writes from all instances is approximately the same.

    Average CPU (%)

Another possible measure of instance activity is the amount of CPU time consumed by database instances on each node in the cluster. The cluster is in balance when the CPU usage across all instances is approximately the same.
