Description
Cannot add servers on a different domain using windows authentication. Getting Error:
Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. [0x80131904]
Cause
The Spotlight tool connects to the monitored instance using a Microsoft library. That library supports either Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication so Spotlight is limited to using either of those. forms of authentication. If Windows authentication does not work then the alternatives are to either use SQL Server authentication or create a trusted domain that can be used.
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
None.
STATUS:
Enhancement request DS-772 has been denied to support Spotlight Federation in an untrusted domain due to violating the security policy the site intended to achieve.
